Lady St John of Bletso MBChB MRCOG
As this is the last newsletter of 2015 I’d like to thank all of you for your loyalty to St John clinic. I continue to really enjoy working within this speciality which steadily increases in popularity and I can assure you that I will endeavour to try my hardest to keep you looking your best over the years to come.
Christmas should always be a wonderful time for families to get together yet such short lived celebrations are so often overshadowed by the stress of organising the festivities, worsening weather, school commitments, work overload etc. It’s exhausting isn’t it?
Our hormones are inextricably linked to our sense of wellbeing and although I can do my best to make you look fresh from the outside, it is what ’s happening inside that has such a big influence on how we feel on a day to day basis. It is not uncommon for clients in their 40s/50s to report that they just don’t feel happy, are unable to concentrate, sleep badly etc. Physical symptoms such as hot flushes are common and can be debilitating. However, in my opinion, an awareness of the psychological impact of declining oestrogen levels is at least as important.
I’ve always thought that HRT appears to be under prescribed and that women suffer in silence from symptoms of the menopause. Recently, I was delighted to hear a summary of experts talking about the subject on Radio 4. You can hear what they say by following this link bbc.in/1QZA8gy.
As usual, I have a special offer for you- half price on any one skincare product in either the Obagi or Skinceuticals ranges. I will also be giving away free samples of skinceuticals products, subject to availability, to every client attending for treatments in December and January.
On a technical note, I’ll be explaining:
Finally, due to popular demand, I’ll be offering selected Saturday appointments in London as well as giving you dates of forthcoming clinics outside London.
You can see the full list of products on my website www.stjohnclinic.co.uk.
This offer, one per client, is available to those having a Botox® or filler treatment before the end of February 2016. Products can be sent recorded delivery for a £5 supplement. I have sample sizes of most of the skinceuticals skincare range which I’m very happy to let you try, subject to availability.
Botox®, strategically placed in the facial muscles, can lift the eyebrows and make you look fresher and more wide awake. In order to achieve maximum brow lift, both the specific positioning and dose of Botox® is important and these two factors obviously vary from client to client. The initial consultation is very important. Everyone’s needs are different but in general terms it is by treating both the frown area and the crows’ feet that we can achieve maximum brow lift.
Many clients are under the impression that treatment of the forehead area results in lift. The opposite is in fact true.
Botox® in the forehead area will soften the horizontal lines at the expense of lift. It is for this reason that I tend to be careful not to over treat the forehead particularly at the first visit. I encourage a check up at 2 to 3 weeks when I can fine tune the effect It is usually better for some clients to accept a degree of forehead movement than to potentially result in a shiny, frozen forehead with heavy lidded eyes.
Lighter doses will wear off faster but this is better for many of you than heavier doses which can result in making you look more tired.
I attended an aesthetic medical conference (BCAM, Westminster) in September and was fascinated to hear from the speakers what I’d already suspected from my many years working within this specialty. I notice that clients who’ve had regular mid face fillers do not jowl as they age to the extent as others who’ve never had fillers in this area. The positive effects of the presence of hyaluronic acid based fillers on ongoing collagen stimulation has been well publicised and I am seeing these effects first hand in my own clients.
It appears to me that the presence of fillers deep in the upper cheek area tends to provide long term support for the tissues and the long term prevention of jowling. Clearly, none of us want our cheeks to look unnatural and I’d just like to stress that I always aim for a very natural look. Minimal quantities of hyaluronic acid based fillers, correctly placed, will have a very positive impact on your face both now and in the future.
I’m offering selected Saturday appointments in London, currently to be held in the afternoon at the Wimbledon Park clinic. Here are the dates for January, February and March: Jan 23rd, Jan 30th, Feb 20th, Feb 27th, Mar 5th and Mar 26th. Do email the clinic should you wish to make an appointment.
